Memory Problem Solved!
The problem with memory constraints mentioned in the previous devlog post are now solved. I was able to study the ZX Next manual (Chapter 24, page 293 to be exact) and 'relocate' a chunk of the program from the main 48k (original Spectrum) space, to one of the memory banks in the 1MB RAM of the new Spectrum Next. It's actually not that complicated once you know how, although it does take a little strategic planning when deciding which chunks of the listing to move over; they can't be edited once moved, just replaced or deleted.
With that problem out of the way, I spent a little time tarting up the main menu screen & adding a help page (photo below). Tomorrow I'll be making a start on the alien gunfire. After that I'll need to balance the difficulty and compose some music for the main menu.
I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for the first time! :)
