I've been tinkering with programming this game, and discovering what is realistically possible on the Spectrum Next, in NextBASIC. It looks like a playable version of Space Invaders, complete with 55 aliens, mothership, player movement/gunfire, and alien gunfire, is definitely feasible, from what I've been able to program so far. At worst, I might have to reduce the number of aliens, but at the moment it's looking like that won't be necessary. The combination of the Next's 28Mhz mode & built-in hardware sprites make BASIC on the Next a much more credible programming language than BASIC on any Spectrum model that came before it. This is all very exciting!
